Now onto the 4th release of AdaptCMS (since the split into AdaptCMS Lite and AdaptCMS Pro), the development process goes on as work has begun on AdaptCMS v1.3.

When working on v1.2 there were numerous features thought of that were pushed to v1.3, several of which are major and done already.

Below I'll talk about a few of the biggest new features for AdaptCMS Pro/Lite v1.3.

File Release System/Upgrade

First to talk about is a very unique idea that will be new to AdaptCMS v1.3. The "File Release"/"Upgrade" feature lets you quickly upgrade your copy of AdaptCMS or even just get the newest files from right inside your admin panel!

We were thinking of how we could make the installation and upgrading easier and we came up with this. Of course you can download the zip for the latest AdaptCMS at AdaptCMS.com, but with this if there is for example a major bug, you can just select the file causing the issue and it copies the new one over for you.

The feature in principle is practically done, only requiring some aspects to be finished. But the idea and feature has and is in use right now, viewing the File Release page you can even see whether your files are out of date or different in size compared to the latest files.

Statistics v1.2

Stats received a major face-lift in v1.2 of AdaptCMS, but it gets even more things added to it in v1.3 of AdaptCMS.

Statistics v1.2 biggest addition is the "Archive" feature. Taking advantage of past changes in mysql structure, you can now essentially see uniques and views for past weeks and past months in the archive. It'll even show how much of an increase or decrease each week and month had compared to previously.

There is also an Archive Compare feature, letting you compare a particular week or month to another.

Also new to Statistics is Bot Detection. This simple addition will recognize bots, you can then see in the Stats page how many hits you've received from them.

Lastly new to Statistics v1.2 is a Keywords section. This area shows your top keywords and how many hits you've gotten from them.

Documentation

Documentation is something that seems somewhat silly to talk about as a big new feature in a CMS, but I'm the first one to admit that there is very little documentation on how to actually operate AdaptCMS, but this changes in AdaptCMS v1.3.

Other than including all php functions you can use in the tools area and new help files being added, in v1.3 of AdaptCMS a large Read Me file will be included. When finished, not only will the Read Me file including a step-by-step user guide for first time users to get started, but the Documentation will cover every aspect of AdaptCMS.

Even better, this Read Me file will include the one with the version of AdaptCMS you have, but in combination with the new File Release system, you can easily get the latest Read Me file from right inside your admin panel of AdaptCMS!

Conclusion

Although the release of AdaptCMS v1.2 was considered a "Major Release", v1.3 may come close to it or have even more/larger new additions. For the first time, not only will there be full documentation on every aspect of AdaptCMS, but the ability to get the latest files from inside your very own copy of AdaptCMS, the future is bright.

Testimonials

I have dealt with many CMSes before. I have had my fair share of disappointments. At first, I had a rough time with OneCMS. Thanks to the awesome support with OneCMS, I am now gliding along easily. Even making modifications! I have never dealt with this level of support, especially on a free program, before. I think that Chuck shows great devotion, and props on the CMS.
