There has been several advantages of having AdaptCMS Pro over AdaptCMS Lite, but the first major difference will be in AdaptCMS Pro v1.1, the RSS Importer plugin. The idea of this plugin came from my news site - Political Yard. It used an RSS feeder script with practically everything hand-coded.

One problem was that unlike a CMS, upgrading a custom website just isn't as easy. I got to thinking that if I could make an RSS Importer feature and actually get that website running on it, it would be a true test for the plugin and would benefit the site greatly.

The Scoop

Basically the RSS Importer plugin lets you put in a URL for a feed, select the section and then when the importer finds new content in the feed, it adds it automatically into the article database. Adding a feed is a process of just seconds. You put in the feed url, put in a name for it, select a section and select the field for the description and that's it! Optionally you can change the max articles to import, how often (minutes) the feed is checked and you can select a field for the URL.

Once a feed is added, no further action is needed. For example on Political Yard I have a "Top News" feed that's checked every 10 minutes. So every 10 minutes the feed is gone through and if there are new items (when it's not checked, the feed is cached), they are added just like when adding an article through AdaptCMS, except it's automatic.

Conclusion

Besides being essential for websites that run on feeding RSS feeds, the RSS Importer plugin has many other uses. When I ran PAX Gamers.com later on, I found adding news a pretty boring task and with this plugin a game website could feed through game news and then handle the rest. Not only that, but there's so much potential to expand.
